Job Purpose:
Supporting members of management as legal officer.
Providing legal services for the Group’s activities (including all Group Legal functions).
Assisting the Group in understanding its legal risk appetite and, participating in the implementation of a legal strategy, plans and programs across the
Group to enable the organisation to deliver on its commercial and customer priorities.
Advising the Group’s teams to ensure that legal implications of business decisions are appropriately considered and that the banks operations are
compliant with local and international legal and regulatory obligations.
Supporting the Group Legal’s functions in the delivery of high quality and commercially focused legal services that protect the Group’s interests and
manage legal exposure within legal risk appetite as defined and understood by the Group.
Anticipating, identifying and managing legal risks, and initiating corrective action where necessary, in order to protect the interests of the Group. The role
will also involve the management of relationships with external counsel, and ensuring that external counsel service and costs are appropriate at all times,
and that external counsel deliver effective advice.
Being involved in the provision of legal training (either by the wealth management and consumer products Team) or by coordination with external counsel
to internal colleagues on core areas of legal risk, as well as emerging areas of legal risk.
Demonstrating emerging skill levels in communication, influencing, commercial awareness, professional excellence and self-development, operational
excellence and efficiency and in awareness and management of legal risk.
Managing transactions and projects with limited supervision.
Participating in any group wide training rotation program designed to extend skills across all Group Legal functions
Participation in the development and maintenance of a strong culture of service excellence
Duties and responsibilities:
Drafting and disseminating template legal contracts and providing training to stakeholders on their implementation.
Reviewing existing template contracts and updating as necessary
Assisting in the negotiation, drafting, review and execution of non-standard complex third-party contracts.
Review, draft, implement & monitor policies, processes & procedures pertaining to the legal support to relevant stakeholders.
Assist in projects and ad-hoc matters assigned to the job holder by the Group General Counsel or team leadership.
Maintaining excellent relationships with business colleagues –including establishment and execution of a relationship plan
Ensure that the legal support is provided to the stakeholders in a timely manner within the agreed TAT.
Provide clear, accurate and commercially focused legal advice and support to clients of the legal team to ensure business objectives and targets are achieved while legal risks are adequately managed.
Developing excellent relationships with business colleagues – including establishment and execution of a relationship plan
Assist in the creation of a comprehensive periodic legal report on material pending, on-going and new projects, matters and risks within Group Legal functions.
Maintain accountability for projects allocated by team leadership and ensure timely and effective delivery of all projects
Drive and support the establishment of a strong service and quality-oriented culture within Group Legal
