Responsibilities

Conduct thorough evaluations of patients with suspected or diagnosed genetic disorders.

Gather and analyze medical histories, family histories, and genetic test results to determine the underlying cause of a patient's condition.

Provide genetic counseling to patients and their families to help them understand their risk for inherited diseases and make informed decisions about their health.

Develop personalized treatment plans for patients based on their genetic profile and current health status.

Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.

Collaborate with other physicians and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients with genetic disorders.

Stay updated on advancements in the field of genetics and incorporate new knowledge and technologies into patient care.

May conduct or participate in research studies related to genetics.

Requirements

Medical degree from an accredited institution.

Completed residency and fellowship in clinical genetics.

Board certification in clinical genetics.

Current state medical license.

Strong understanding of genetics and genetic disorders.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients and their families.

Proficient in using electronic medical records and other medical software.

Understanding of ethical and legal considerations in genetic testing and counseling.

Willingness to participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date with advancements in the field.
